2013 TV Raffle Winner

Congratulations to Harvey Favell whose ticket was drawn as winner of this season's BIG Screen TV Raffle.  Harvey purchased his winning ticket while watching the curling action at this year's Aboriginal mixed bonspiel.

On behalf of AMCC Board of Directors, a huge 'Thank You' to all who participated in the raffle.  The Board appreciated all the Leagues that stepped forward this year to help sell the raffle tickets.

A very special thanks to Al Seredynski and Bruce Wilkinson for spearheading this important fund raiser.

End of the 2012/13 Curling Season

2012/13 CURLING SEASON FINISHES ON A VERY BUSY NOTE

The season started way back in late September and ended on a very busy note with the final week featuring the City wide Daytime Championships, the evening fun spiel and the 32 team Knights of Columbus Bonspiel on the weekend. All three events earned rave reviews for the ice conditions, food and bar service.  Many thanks to Loyd Olson for organizing the funspiel,  featuring curlers of all abilities, family connections and many new faces to our great facility.  There is little doubt that this spiel will continue well into the future with the very real potential for growth.  Congratulations to the Marian Whalen team for their second place finish in a very competitive Daytime Championship.   The organizing committee for the Knights of Columbus included some of our long time members and previous Board Directors who went out of their way to make our guests feel welcome.  Much appreciation to the hardworking Board Members, staff and many volunteers for ensuring that this was a banner season at The Home Of Champions.  Unlike a number of clubs in the City and Province the AMCC has a very promising future.  Dates for the AGM and September Registration will be posted on the website.

Thank you all

Mens Club Championships

MANDRYK WINS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

After dropping their first game in the club championship playoff Barry and his team of Jason Mandryk, Bob Choy and Kyle McNaughton rattled off 7 straight wins, including an extra end victory over the Paul Armstrong team in the final game. Barry and the guys will represent the AMCC in the 2014 Dominion Regional Playoffs. We wish them best of luck and good curling noting that Barry and Jason were members of the team which represented Manitoba at the Dominion Nationals just afew seasons ago.

AMCC HOSTS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SENIOR SPIEL

Thanks to the outstanding organizational efforts of Archie Mullin, George Archibald, Jim Smith and Merv Kuruluk(during the initial planning stages) 32 Mens teams thoroughly enjoyed participating in the annual Seniors Bonspiel 19-22 Mar 2013.   Archie and the guys made sure everything ran extremely smooth while Matt's crew provided superb ice, Kim's staff prepared excellent food and Cindy ensured very professional, friendly bar service.  AMCC teams finished very well with the Wayne Johnson team(club members Kelly Bernhard, George Archibald)  losing in the "A" Final, Barry McFadyen(club members Paul Batchelor, Loyd Olson) capturing "B" event and others making it to the semifinals in all 3 events.  In the losers, but still winners category the Col Klinck and Ron Johnson teams fared very well in the Calcutta.  This spiel continues to grow in popularity and is a hallmark event on the Seniors Curling Calendar.  The AMCC Board of Directors extends sincere appreciation to all of those who have contributed to its unparalleled success.

Fun Lover League - 8 Ender

3 SCORE 8

Friday February 22, 2013, Fun Lovers Mixed League

Three member team as second Chris McDonald was away on vacation.

S: Bob Choy
3: Rob Clairmont
L: Sharon Fegusson

Opposition red tapped up one of our guards into the house. We hit to double out the red at top 12ft (4th shot) and back 12ft shot (5th shot) to sit 7. Skip's rock was short on the first draw attempt. Our draw slid too far to the back four and allowed for a draw to button for the opposing skip. However his draw wrecked on his own guard for the steal of eight.

2013 Provincial Sticks Champions

AMCC members, Ernie Oliver and Chris Sobkowicz, proudly receiving the Provincial Sticks Championship trophy, acknowledging their outstanding performance at the Gimli Curling Club.  Ernie and Chris dropped their first match and then rattled off 9 wins in a row including 5 back to back matches enroute to the Provincial Championship.  The winning duo will be travelling to Charlottetown PEI first week of April to "stick it to other competitors from across Canada".  We wish Ernie and Chris the best of luck on the East Coast and know that they will do us proud.

AMCC to get Elevator

In addition to the approved Federal Funding I am pleased to announce that the City Of Winnipeg (Councillor Grant Nordman) very recently approved $50,000 under the Community Incentive Grant Program in direct support of this project. The Board of Directors is confident that the Province will join the other two major funding partners in ensuring that this significant upgrade to our facility is completed before the start of the 2013/14 curling season. Every effort will be made to ensure that all members are kept fully informed of any developments.
