Manitoba Open HALFspiel
January 17-19, 2014
If you're anything like us, watching the best male and female curlers in Canada battling it out on the ice for a chance to go to the Olympics has got you pumped about curling, and wanting to get out on the ice yourself.
The Manitoba Open Bonspiel, the renamed MCA Bonspiel, is the perfect opportunity to lace up your curling shoes and slide your way through curling clubs in Winnipeg. Entry in the Bonspiel is open to all curlers and teams, be they male or female (or a combination of both) junior, senior, masters, stick, wheelchair, and visually impaired curlers. CurlManitoba invites and encourages all to join us in the longest running bonspiel in the world.
Berths into the Safeway Provincial Men's curling Championship are still available to eligible men's teams. For everybody else, there is five days and six guaranteed games of good times.
If 5 days is too much of a commitment, for the first time ever we are running a HALFSpeil, a 64-team, 3 game guaranteed event that starts Friday night an ends Sunday.
Entries are limited to 256 teams in the Manitoba Open Bonspiel, and 64 teams in the HALFSpeil, so get your entries in as soon as possible, don't wait for the January 2 deadline.

$1.22 per Game - Christmas Deal on Safeway Championship Tickets
Ticket Sales for the Safeway Championship (January 29-February 2 at MTS ICEPLEX) were launched during the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings and visitors to the CurlManitoba display at the Trials were positive about ‘the deal’.
When you attend the event to watch Manitoba’s best men’s teams, you’ll pay $30 per day at the door. With an advance purchase of a full event ticket, you can save $40 and give a Christmas gift to you curling club as well.
The pre-Christmas price of $110 includes an automatic $15 direct rebate to your affiliated curling club. After Christmas (until the day before the championship), the price will go up to $125. The $15 club rebate will be included in that price as well.
By the way – the first ticket purchasers were Ken and Shirley Strand and their $15 club rebates benefitted the Pembina Curling Club.
INTERESTED in an advance purchase – contact your club manager (or designated volunteer) or contact CurlManitoba – 204-925-5723,
If you want to know how good a deal Safeway Championship tickets are ………with five sheets of ice and four draws a day in the preliminary round – $30 a day is a price of $1.50 per game - less than your morning cup of coffee.
And you can reduce that to $1.22 per game with the pre-Christmas full event pass priced at $110.
The Little Rocks and Bantams would like to acknowledge the generous contributions of $250 each from our Seniors and Masters Leagues. These committed curlers have shown their support for our youth by providing financial assistance for equipment and teaching aids. We are most grateful for this, and salute them for their dedication to our young curlers. THANKS!!!
We are delighted to announce that World Champion Connie Laliberte will be joining us on Saturday, December 14 to work with our Bantam curlers. We know her expertise will be of great value to these enthusiastic young athletes.

The Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club is “a buzz “ with young curlers on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:30 PM under the supervision of Kim Anderson and her assistants as well as some parents together with some dedicated Assiniboine Memorial volunteers. The “learn to curl” program is using 4 sheets of ice and has taken off with a lot of enthusiasm . The curlers are made up in to teams according to age with supervision and instruction on each sheet. They have advanced considerably since they started in the middle of October.
They are a joy to see coming in and getting changed to go out on the ice. They are keen to get started, but also are ready to take a break mid way through the session when they come in for a treat and support Kim in the kitchen.
The Club hopes this will encourage youth interest in curling again as well as increase membership in our Little Rocks and Bantams programs.
