2012 Dominion Club Championship

MENS LEAGUE

 The Dominion Regionals are being hosted by Charleswood Curling Club 5-9 March 2012, followed by the Dominion Provincial in Neepawa week of 18 March 2012.   In order to meet these time lines a special playoff will be conducted last week of February to determine the AMCC Mens League representative team for 2012.  Further details i.e. qualifying teams, format, draw etc will be provided by the Mens League Convenor.  The Club Championships will take place end of March 2012 with the winners representing the AMCC at the 2013 Dominion Regionals.

124th MCA Spiel

THANK YOU

 
The 124th MCA Spiel is in the books and, once again, the AMCC came through in flying colours. Event Assistants (aka Umpires) Doug Grimsley, Matt Posthumus, Al Mayer, Bill Hartley, Archie Mullin, and Don Skinner did a superb job in looking after all administrative aspects of the event; Matt's ice crew (augmented by Dave Gyryluk) provided an excellent playing surface; the Bar staff kept the liquid flowing and Kim's Kitchen provided great service and delicious meals.  In true volunteer spirit Chad Sheppard and Bob McNaughton resolved a critical problem with the fax.   Away from the Club a number of our teams achieved pretty respectable win/loss records throughout the spiel.  Make your plans for the 125th as Curl Manitoba promises that it will be one helluva of an event.

Congratulations!!!

Congratulations to the Derek Blanchard and Katie Spencer teams for their excellent round robin records at the Junior Mens and Womens Provincial Championships. Unfortunately, the playoffs did not go in their favour and many players from both teams graduate from the Junior ranks on a less than positive note. The Board of Directors and all members of the AMCC are very proud of their accomplishments and sincerely hope that these very talented curlers will continue to represent our Club as they chase their respective goals in the many years ahead (not unlike members of their immediate family in years gone by). Of special significance, Derek was awarded the Sportsmanship award based on the vote of his fellow competitors (Grandpa Elmer indicates that Derek's sportsman like traits may have skipped a generation with father Greg - we all know that Greg's coaching technique over the past many years contributed to Derek's noteworthy success and demeanour). Just another example of the generational connections which continue to be so prevalent at the Home Of Champions.

Very best of luck and good curling to the Michelle Montford, Janet Harvey, Jason Gunnlaugson (David Bohn) teams as they represent the AMCC at the upcoming Provincial Scotties and Safeway Championship respectively. In addition we hope that the 10 teams entered in the MCA Spiel 19-
23 Jan 2012 will bring home some Major and/or Minor event hardware.

Seniors and Masters Annual Christmas Luncheon

AMCC SENIORS AND MASTERS RECEIVE COACHING TIPS

Thanks to the wily ways of our very own Archie Mullin the Seniors and Masters annual Christmas luncheon was hilited by the appearance of Paul LaPolice coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Following a chat with many of those in attendance Coach LaPolice provided a very insightful presentation and participated in a decidedly entertaining Question and Answer session.  Although always looking for older players, Paul noted that many of those in the room should stick with curling, noting how encouraging it was to see some 100 or so older gentlemen thoroughly enjoying the exercise and social atmosphere inherent with the roaring game.   Club President Paul thanked Archie and his assistants for their efforts in engineering this very special guest appearance and presented Coach Paul with an AMCC pin to enhance his (large) collection of curling club pins. Archie lauded the outstanding Community spirit demonstrated by the Bomber organization with the appearance of Coach LaPolice and past representations by Ken Ploen and Richard Harris.   Pictured are some of our longtime members and stalwart Bomber supporters.   The attendance of long time members and club supporters, Toro Suzuki and Albert Olson, was particularly noteworthy and speaks volumes for the traditions and history of the Home Of Champions.
